Bible Term: Scripture

In general, scripture refers to any holy book or sacred text.

Specifically, the Bible is referred to as Scripture or the Holy Scripture.

Interestingly, the word scripture only occurs in the New Testament of the Bible and refers to the accepted religious texts of that day, what we now call the Old Testament.

Key verse about Scripture: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV).

A lifelong student of the Bible, Peter DeHaan, PhD, wrote the 1,000-page website ABibleADay.com to encourage people to explore the Bible. His main blog and many books urge Christians to push past the status quo and reconsider how they practice their faith in every area of their lives.
