Bible Term: Sanctify

To sanctify (the verb form of sanctification) is to set apart, to refine, or to make holy.

As we follow Jesus, we sanctify ourselves—with his help—to show our gratitude and gratefulness for what he did, and does, for us.

Sanctify is a synonym for consecrate.

Key verse about Sanctify: May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23, NIV).

A lifelong student of the Bible, Peter DeHaan, PhD, wrote the 1,000-page website ABibleADay.com to encourage people to explore the Bible. His main blog and many books urge Christians to push past the status quo and reconsider how they practice their faith in every area of their lives.
