Bible Term: Hope

In the Bible, hope is a confident expectation that something will happen; it’s not merely a desire or wishful thinking. Followers of Jesus are often said to have a hope in him (Colossians 1:5).

Faith, hope, and love are a major triad in the Bible (1 Corinthians 13:13, Colossians 1:5, 1 Thessalonians 1:3, and 1 Thessalonians 5:8).

Key verse about Hope: “Oh, that I might have my request, that God would grant what I hope for, (Job 6:8, NIV)

A lifelong student of the Bible, Peter DeHaan, PhD, wrote the 1,000-page website ABibleADay.com to encourage people to explore the Bible. His main blog and many books urge Christians to push past the status quo and reconsider how they practice their faith in every area of their lives.
