Bible Term: Epistle

Any one of the letters that have been recorded in the New Testament of the Bible. These letters were written by church leaders and sent to various people or churches.

Most of the books in the New Testament are, in fact, these letters or epistles; the Apostle Paul is credited with writing many of them.

The epistles include:

Key verse about epistle: “Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle” (2 Thessalonians 2:15, NKJV).

A lifelong student of the Bible, Peter DeHaan, PhD, wrote the 1,000-page website ABibleADay.com to encourage people to explore the Bible. His main blog and many books urge Christians to push past the status quo and reconsider how they practice their faith in every area of their lives.
